Looking High and Low

Song - Morning Has Broken cover by MonaLisa Twins

 Good Morning Dear!

The other morning I woke up and opened the kitchen shade.  This little beauty above had her nose against the glass and startled me!  I went out on the front porch (still in my nightgown - it's a good thing we don't have neighbors nearby!) to say hello and her boyfriend was standing guard nearby.....

Look how long his ears are up in his antlers!  I didn't say this to him but doesn't he look like he is wearing a bad toupee? The female deer ran down the lane but he took his time to turn around keeping an eye on me and slowly pranced royally down the lane after her.

The very next morning I woke and went out on the back deck to fill a new bird feeder that I can see from my bedroom and noticed this....

He was hanging on the deck railing and I wondered why he wasn't on a nearby bush.  I mean he really stood out against the white paint.  I went out a few more times to check on his advancement towards a plant.  He was slow but steady and made it to safety.

Hello Spring!

Song - When the Red Red Robin Comes Bob Bob Bobbin' Along by Bing Crosby

Mr. & Mrs. Titmouse have been busy making their home a showstopper for 2021.  For two weeks one of them would be in the house tap-tap-tapping all day long as the other one flitted back and forth making sure all was well.  I guess they were hoping to enlarge their nesting box.

I get so much enjoyment from these two and am able to help teach my grandson Henry about birds and their nests.

A birdhouse in the shade garden fell to the ground sometime this winter - probably by a squirrel - and Mr. B was kind enough to help rehang it with extra screws!

It may be too late for the birds to use this spring but it will be ready for them next year.

We have been seeing this small little wren like birds and I found out that they are Bushtits.  They love the suet feeder full of bugs and nuts! They also like the nesting balls I have hanging on our trees.

They work very hard at pulling the cotton out of the twig ball and just when you think they have too much to fly with, they go in for even more!

Even the hummingbirds go in for this nesting material.  They have gone through two balls this month so I just purchased two more along with some refill for the first two!

Two days ago I woke up to find two beautiful deer in our backyard happily munching away on my roses. In 25 years they have never gotten into our backyard and when I walked out to see the damage they had done I almost cried.  My new tender rose growth, the hydrangeas, new shoots from my sweet peas....gone....now I love deer but not in my garden!  Mr. B and I went out that day with deer repellent and sprayed the yard.....I have two more bottles coming in the mail today!  Yesterday I opened the front curtain and there was a big ol' turkey on my front porch.  He didn't do much damage and I was glad that Henry got to see him and now walks around the house saying "gobble, gobble"!

One more beautiful troublemaker in my yard - hawks!  Just while I was typing this post I saw him fly into a tree right outside my door.  I see you Mr. Hawk trying to hide behind the wind chimes!!!

In Need Of A Drink

Song - Dem Deer by Bryan Bowers

So I have several bird baths around our yard and the other evening Mr. B came home from work and told me how attractive my bird baths are becoming.  While I was still enjoying a moment of bird pride, he showed me his cell phone.....

Yup...this is the deer we call "Buck Pennell" as there used to be a guy on our tiny street by that name.

And there goes Buck.....very well hydrated!

Time to fill up the bird baths again.

Be a good listener

Leap over obstacles

Know when to lay low

Tread lightly on the earth

Take time to browse

Look both ways before crossing the road

Don't pass the buck!"

Bear With Me

Song - The Camping Song by Smith & Smith

I have been home for two whole weeks now from our recent trip to France. But due to a bad cough, lack of sleep due to coughing, jet lag, laundry and a multitude of other things, I had to put my blogging on the back burner for awhile. Now I'm back and ready to rock & roll!

My garden has been in full bloom and I am enjoying the cut flowers as well as doing some much needed work in the yard.....like putting in my vegetable garden.

Several days after returning we had a double header birthday party for my daughter-in-law Ashley and son Tyler. He always wanted to have a Bob Ross paint-along party so we dug up some of my previously used but not-ready-for-prime-time canvas's to be painted over.

Above are just some of the birthday painters.
Pretty great beginners here with their Bob Ross wigs on!
We painted along with his show - "Valley View".

The very next day Mr. B flew to Washington DC for the week for work.
I can't imagine what that did to his jetlag????

And with this last weekend being Mother's Day, my kiddo's invited me up to Boonville where they lease a little spot of beautiful land for camping and hunting.  This weekend they took me on a shooting spree........a "cameras only" shooting spree!

They have installed a humongous tent with a pot bellied stove and a queen bed.
Their plans are to build a raised deck to put the tent on.
There is running water, electricity & a real flush toilet on site!

However, Mr. B and I stayed in the nearby Boonville Hotel which was delightful!
They have beautiful grounds with lots going on, like a Saturday morning farmers market, music,  oyster shucking Sundays and in the summer it's paella Sundays!

There is wine tasting nearby, hikes in the redwoods, a little shopping but mostly peace & quiet.

All of my loveys were there to celebrate & relax (except one - Tyler's SO was in Texas.....we missed you Monica!)

Even my grand-dog Chewy was there!

and dear Ashley who is always fun to be with!

Everyone worked so happily making delicious meals.  We even had a picnic lunch by the river while several of the guys went swimming.

We spotted some wildlife.....

 Lot's of  wildflowers......

And even some wild horses! (Unfortunately my camera is having focus problems and probably needs a good cleaning. It's nothing to do with the operator!!!)

On Sunday we had breakfast and a leisurely drive home and then cooked dinner for my sweet mama!

Thank you all for making it a memorable Mother's Day!
I couldn't have dreamed up anything this special.

Oh Dear!

Song - Bambi Say Bird

The other day I opened my front door and found this.......

.....happily munching on my white roses!

So I sent her on her way......

.....and behind her were two little ones.

They trotted up our lane.....

....up to my neighbors yard to much on something new!

They always say because it's such a beautiful animal.

Important Milestones

Song - Dances with Wolves by John Barry

Seldom in life do things go as planned but I just returned home from a wonderful birthday trip for both me and my son, Andy who also had a milestone birthday this month.  Oh yeah, and just for fun we brought along Mr. B and Andy's girlfriend (so darling and funny) Ashley!

Now, Ashley and I are not happy fliers but we enjoy where those crazy airplanes can take us....

...especially after we have our Breakfast of Champions!  A double Bloody Mary for Ashley and a double Gin & Tonic for me.  It gets us right on that tarmac!

We arrived at Salt Lake City and then took a little puddle jumper to Idaho Falls.  Jumping in our rental car we take off for Victor, Idaho.  On the way there the guys spot a Mama Moose with her Baby as well as a Bald Eagle.  Two points for the guys and zero for the girls.  Don't worry we do catch up!

After a day of touring and relaxing at Teaton Springs, we have a reservation for a fly fishing float trip down the Snake River.  The guides split us up with Mr. B and Andy in one boat, while Ashley and I head down the river in another boat with a different guide.  Ashley is a first time fisherwoman and I am just taking photo's and painting on the front end of the boat.  As Ashley is being taught how to cast, she actually catches a fish.  Go Ashley!

Ashley must of caught 20 plus fish on her first day of fishing.  She actually could of caught 30-40 fish but she got so excited that she forgot to set her hook.  It was all catch and release so it was all good fun.....well, maybe not so for the fish.

The next day we head on to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for two days.  Unfortunately Andy and I got food poisoning and are in bed for two days.  But Mr. B and Ashely enjoy the town.

No one we know but a great shot of the Antler Arch in the town square.

On Tuesday we head off to the Teaton National Park and Yellowstone National Park.

That would be a Glacier in the middle of the shot.

We headed North to Old Faithful ( see photo above) and the Old Faithful Inn (below).

What an amazing place, you kinda feel like you are on another planet with the ground bubbling and changing colors beneath you.

While heading North towards Livingston, Montana we encountered a tremendous amount of beauty.

We even picnicked near some.....

"Hey, what's in that picnic basket BooBoo?" - Yogi Bear

As we found our way up to our next destination, Chico Hot Springs, Montana and we realized that we had crossed the Continental Divide three times.  That's were the water decides if it will flow East or West.

As we headed into our last days in Chico Hot Springs, Pray, Montana, I meditated on the joy of this trip.

The four of us in a car for 8 days and not sure if we would still be speaking near the end, but instead we got to know one another just a little bit better and found we can have fun together!

A lot of beauty, laughter, great meals, lightening storms, heat waves and celebration.

Being together.

Thank you Mr. B and Ashley for a wonderful birthday celebration!
