Queen of Hearts

Song - Mother and Child Reunion by Paul Simon

Mother's Day

Some photo's of mom's and their daughters.....from our family.

Mamma Mia.....
it's both a love story and a struggle for independence kinda relationship.

Above is a photo of my grandmother and my mom on her wedding day.
(I need to say that Grandma never dressed like this....she was always in an apron & cooking!)

I often wonder if there were ever  struggles in their relationship?
Grandma Sophie had four beautiful daughters.
And all the sisters were great friends.

My mom's mom - Grandma Sophie and her mom - Grandma Mary.

I was very fortunate to be able to spend time with both my Grandmother
and Great Grandmother on my mom's side of the family.

Grandma Mary lived until she was 98 years old!

Need I say.....she was a pistol!

My mom and her mother-in-law.....Grandma Violet.
(That's Duchess in between them at the beach in Santa Cruz)

My daughter-in-law, Ashley and myself last year at her wedding shower.

Surfing in Tahoe?

Song - Say Hey (I Love You) Giants Version by Michael Franti & Spearhead

Just returned from a weekend wedding in Lake Tahoe.  My nephew Paul got married on Saturday and it was a wild & crazy day.....weather-wise!

Friday afternoon and evening were beautiful at the Lake.  We sat out on the deck and enjoyed the evening stars.  Chilly but clear and calm.

Saturday morning we woke to high winds.  The pine trees were thrashing against the cabin.

We visited with my beautiful parents, enjoyed the fall color, went to breakfast and then a drive.

My parents were in Tahoe for the wedding as well!

Due to the winds the waves were big for Lake Tahoe.

Then guess what we saw?????

Ashley dipping her toes in the ice cold water!  Burrrrr.......

AND

Surfers on the Lake!

Until this moment, I had only heard that sometimes you (not me but you!) can surf the Lake.

I personally was amazed!

Mr. B, Andy & Ashley, and Jon all voted to return to the cabin to light a fire and play Canasta with Tyler!

Out of 8 boxes of cards we could only find 1 that was complete.

So then guess what happened?

Yep.....it began to rain, then snow.  It was majestically beautiful!

And oh so very romantic for the wedding.............

.....except the bride and groom were planning on getting married outside!

But as the 4:00pm wedding time began to roll around, the sky parted and sunshine showed it's sweet little face.  I think Mother Nature heard the brides prayers!

The staff set the chairs up on the dock and lit the heat lamps.

Then guess what happened?

Grandma Betty and Grandma Tillie came out as the "flower girls"!

And the beautiful, happy bride Katie and her father came down the isle.

Sunset on Saturday night.

Sunday morning we woke to a warm and calm day.  Go figure!

A GIANT footnote about the wedding:

Now, my nephew and his dad (my brother) are Giant fans, so since the wedding was being held during game 4 of the World Series, they were kind enough to leave a TV on in a separate room so those of us that just couldn't stand the torture could occasionally peek!  It was a great win and wedding!

Thanks Paul & Katie!

Thanks Giants!

“I don’t have a great answer for that (inspirational speeches),” Pence said. “I’ve read a ton of books. Not one in particular, but I consciously try to find the good in everything in every situation that happens. Was it Voltaire who said, ‘I choose to be happy because it’s good for my health”? Why not? Even through some of the toughest things that’ll ever happen to you, there’s something that makes you stronger, something you can reframe to make it good. It’s what I believe. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it makes me feel better.” --Hunter Pence (a Giant star!)

Boo!

Boo and Happy Halloween!!!

Song - Monster Mash by Bobby (Boris) Picket and the Crypt-Kickers

I just discovered that I have been avoiding painting.....again.

I think it's because I am struggling with acrylic's vs. oils.

Acrylics = easy to use & clean up

Oils = Juicy, buttery and great blending

After my last workshop in Santa Fe, I found myself loving oils and now I find myself doing all kinds of antics instead of painting.  Even cleaning the house!

Family Tree work....must be done!

Todderdown, England
** I discovered a GG Uncle that was sent to Australia because he killed 6 people and was hanged. Yipes! Just in time for Halloween!

And I have relatives that lived in Todderdown, England - named because it was built on hills and valleys so you just had to "todderdown" the lanes.

Laundry and housework must be finished!

** I washed the dogs this morning and then sprayed the bathroom with bleach and then promptly forgot to wash it down.  Wow it really smells clean.

The studio needs to be reorganized!

** I have been placing paintings and boxes of equipment in the studio because there isn't any room for it elsewhere but yesterday I spent an hour cleaning it up so I could paint.

Posey
Oh yeah...and the Giant's won the World Series.  Last week at this time we were at the First Game of the World Series and I was in doubt that they would make it.  But they did and we had a blast watching them!

Game On

Shout by the Isley Brothers

"Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come." -Field of Dreams

Mr. B, Andy, Tyler & myself at AT&T Park for Game 1 of the World Series!
