A Winter Walk

Song - Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by B.J. Thomas

After a good rain storm and spending way too much time indoors,
I took a little walk around my garden today.

The creek in our backyard was roaring.

The lettuce in the vegatable garden was happy.

The Alyssum growing on the rock walls surrounding the vegetable garden smelled wonderful
and is bright and cheerful.

The Narcissus are ready to open!

My wild Violets are a little bug eaten but blooming.

My Mother Ferns are unfurling and......

...growning baby ferns!!!

The Camellia's are outdoing themselves this year!

Even our woodpile is growing!  Maybe some Rainbow Bracket Fungus?

Buds on the Flowering Quince

And the biggest shock is that my brown lawn (ugg!) has turned green (sigh!)

The Spring Snowflakes are budding

And I have several blooms on my Sea Foam Rose!

After my garden walk, Mika and I came indoors and lit the fire and curled up with a cup of tea.

Reverence

Song - The Afterlife by Paul Simon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0G-BP3qwZ-I&sns=em

(Sorry gang but I just don't know the technology to insert a song with my iPad like I usually do from my PC....which is now toast. You'll have to tap on the link above to hear Paul's song!)

Today in Carol Marine's workshop we worked (and worked) on painting glass & flowers. (OK Joanne & Marcy - quit chuckling)

Above is Carol's beginning stage which looks fairly dark. Below is the finished painting...pretty amazing huh? I just love her style.

I am enjoying my stay at The Immaculate Heart of Mary. It has given me a different view of simple day to day living and how to have reverence for so much in my own life.

I think because here I have time to reflect on life. At home it's time to do laundry, dishes, pay bills, take the dogs to the vets, take out the garbage, yadda, yadda, yadda....you know the drill!

While here I want/need simple order in my life. There is a place for the two pair of shoes I brought with me, I make my little (hard) bed every morning, I get up early to watch the sunrise, there is a communal breakfast & lunch served to us that is dairy-vegan-glutin-wheat free and is some of the best food I have ever eaten, the shower is lukewarm but it's OK, I have time to settle into my bones and enjoy the sound of silence.

I drove through the little town of Santa Fe after our workshop today and as I returned I noticed a fire on the mountains behind the mission. Hope all is well...

"Without an awareness of your emotions you are not able to experience reverence. Reverence is not an emotion. It is a way of being, but the path to reverence is through your heart, and only an awareness of your feelings can open your heart."

Goodness - Stop And Smell the Roses

Some day's I just need life to slow down and that takes an effort on my part.  I get so caught up in the day to day busy-ness of things that I forget to stop, take a deep breath and move forward with intention. If you do it right this minute, trust me you will feel better!  Did you do it?  Well, try it..... breathe deep....three times....now focus (with intention) on what your day may (or may not) involve.  See, I told you that the pieces would fall together and you will have a much different outlook on your day!

The weather is finally turning it's head from gray days to sunny and warm. That helps my lovely garden to grow and it also gets me outside working in the yard.  My home is also beginning to feel more organized, although that is a never ending project!  Over the weekend, all of my boys came home and helped clean out a space under the stairway and built me a storage system for my paintings - Happy Birthday MOM! Thanks guys!!!  So today I will begin to go through my stash of paintings and decide what to keep, what need to go into upcoming shows and what gets tossed.

Life is good.  Be happy - J
