And For Todays Entertainment

Song - Birds the Word by The Rivingtons

It's been so warm in Northern California lately that for the past few weeks Mr. B and I have been relaxing by the side of the pool in the early evenings. We have a glass of wine and he plays me a little air guitar!

This patio is near the shade garden, under some oak & maple trees.  While the rest of the garden has fried from the hot weather, the shade garden is still refreshing to look at.

Some evenings we take a swim and other evenings we just watch the birds flit by getting their last meal of the day.

Hi there Mr. Chickadee!

I have several platform feeders hanging off the deck over the creek. The Tufted Titmouse enjoys the freedom of feeding near large trees that he can escape to if needed.

Other birds like the standard tube feeder. I have an assortment of seeds for them so no one is left out. As well as several (well maybe 8) bird baths placed all around the yard.  When it's really hot I try to put in a few ice cubes to cool the water for them.

A House Finch in the tree is patiently waiting her turn at the feeder below.

When the House Finch finally gets a turn, the Titmouse returns and is surprised to find someone in his dinner dish!

Mr. B and I love watching the birds.  I don't know if it's that we finally have the time to do so or if it is that "at our age" we appreciate them so much more.  Basically our kids think we are nuts when we tell them what our garden birds were doing that day.

And just look who is in the lavender!

I love that brilliant yellow against the purple lavender.

Thanks for entertaining us for one more night!
See you tomorrow.

What if?

What if we could change our planet one person at a time?

Song - It's Not Easy Being Green - Kermit

I have a friend, Taya -  who just began a blog about composting, cooking and giving back to the earth.

Hope you will check it out and say "Hi" to her for me!

A little friend on my tomato stakes

Meanwhile, I have had several friends and family members dealing with various surgeries and healing.

So last week Mr. B and I did up a few dinners to try and help out.

Mr. B marinaded flattened chicken overnight and then grilled it the next day. It was super moist and tasty.  Here is the link for Ina Garten's Tuscan Lemon Chicken

I made a Orzo Salad with Asparagus and tomato.  It was good but needs some livening up.  I would probably add more garlic and some Champagne Vinegar next time.

I also found these cute little candle holders just that morning and they added a "Tuscan" feel with some garden Lavender and Lemons.

So to bring it full circle....Taya inspired me to start composting again!

Go world!

Walking in Circles

My painting of Mama & baby
I've been walking in circles lately because I just can't seem to begin a new painting. I thought my creative juices had dried up, I'm a creative failure, I'll never paint again but that wasn't it at all. Today it suddenly dawned on me why.

1. Every room in our house is in transition (I'm just saying that instead of a mess) because I got this huge urge to Spring clean about 2 weeks ago and instead of completing one room at a time, I took on the entire house.  Now everything is out of place and nothing has really been cleaned! I am usually OK if I have one or two rooms where I can retreat to when the other rooms are going through their "transition" but not so right now.  Jeez....what was I thinking?

2. I am trying to paint a cow right now that I am sizing for a small frame that I already purchased.  Not a good idea.  I want to paint him BIG! A big guy with BIG attitude just should not be painted small. Makes perfect sense to me now!
The BIG boy - see what I mean?

the Lavender is coming along nicely too!
So....with my "intention" (OLW) happening this morning, I came up with a plan. I set up a schedule to get the house back in order (phew!) and I will just buy a bigger frame so I can paint my big cow any size I want!

Sounds so easy now but believe me I have been walking in circles!
