Deep In the Heart of Texas

Song - My Hero's Have Always Been Cowboys by Willie Nelson

Last week Mr. B and I were in Texas and Oklahoma to meet his new first cousins.

Thanks to DNA we were able to find cousins from both of his biological parents.

This trip was to meet his dad's side of the family and they generously shared
stories, photos and laughter with us! Some of his cousins flew in or drove to Forth Worth to spend the day with us and it was very much appreciated!

Last Tuesday after a full day of visiting, we stepped outside of our hotel to see the
"The Herd" - these are Texas Longhorns herded by authentically dressed cowboys called Drovers.

These guys take their job calmly and seriously as just the day before they had trouble with one of the cattle when it wouldn't cross over a metal plate covering a hole in the street.

The cowboys worked with him over and over again and eventually moved the crowd back
as he was getting feisty.

Tuesday they tried him again and he hesitated for a moment before moving forward.

take a look back every now and then to make
sure it's still there."

Hope and Faith

Song - Always on My Mind by Willie Nelson

First it was a pitiful little nest....

Then mama began sitting on it.....

After several weeks mama, seemed to have abandoned the nest....

and my heart was broken.

Two days ago I saw a little head pop up from the seemingly empty nest.

So yesterday I grabbed my camera and there was mama proud as can be.

Every time I checked the nest, I guess mom & dad were out on a date.

I think there may be two babies - if you can see the dark brown wing-feathers in the lower left of the nest - I am thinking it may be another baby under mama.

I have named them Hope and Faith.

Happy Easter Weekend.

An Invasion

Song - Bird on a Wire by Willie Nelson

Saturday at noon we were invaded.....

...by a little Chickadee....

And a Cedar Waxwing.

Then two.....

They came to pick the ripe berries off of our Privet tree.

They hung upside down to find the perfect berry

And they came by the hundreds.....

No wonder why we have Privet seedlings coming up all over our garden!

Yes.....I'm talking about you Mister!

Two Waxwings each with a mouthful !!!

A Robin tried to join the berry picking but left shortly after he arrived...

...as these guys had taken over!

This guy has hair like Woody Woodpecker.

Can you tell that I was trying to avoid work and chose to be entertained by these flying beauties?

Because Friday was so calm in the trees.....

Did you spot him?
