BANG - It's Autumn!

 

 Some of the trees are just beginning to change color but then there are some like this maple in our front yard that are screaming fall.

 

 

 

 Our Strawberry Madrone is slowly curling off its old bark

 

 

 

And the acorns are dropping along our lane.....and when cars drive over them it sounds like popcorn!

 

And with a little luck, California might see some rain in the near future....

 Welcome to my home for Thanksgiving through the years.....

This is me, my brothers and cousins.  We are at my Grandparents home in Oakland 

celebrating Thanksgiving 1957.

Here we are at our new home on Ponderosa Lane standing in front of the

 old walnut tree, one of many that lined the street.

Thanksgiving 1958.

This will be my first Thanksgiving with out my mom.

She taught several generations how to make her gravy.

It still amazes me how she did the whole meal by herself.  

Never asked anyone to bring anything!

 

Every year we would pose in front of this October Glory Maple tree to take our family portraits.

We will miss all of those who could not join us.

Last year we had 26 and this year we will be 7.

Glad people are taking care of themselves and us!

 

 

Same place same time next year!

Confusion in My Garden

Fall has arrived in Northern California.  The squirrels have busily gathered the acorns and the trees are just beginning to change color.....although some are undecided if it truly is Fall or still warm Summer days or maybe it's already Spring!

I have Azaleas and Iris and Narcissus blooming which usually bloom in the Winter & Spring.

And the wall of Limelight Hydrangea that I planted for the wedding are beautiful!

Some plants are slowing down and going inward for this time of season.

Within two days, I could see the change of color in a new Maple we planted last year.

However my Dahlias are still hopeful.........

^{Mr. B and I have been so busy with Thanksgiving preparations that we have not walked around our garden for the last few days.  The other day I noticed that our October Glory Maple Tree in the backyard was still somewhat green but yesterday it had already been lit on fire by the crisp Autumn air.}

The Japanese Maple tree in our front yard is framed by my kitchen window, so I have been watching her turn colors slowly.

^{Momijigari from the Japanese momiji, "red leaves" or "Maple tree" and kari, "hunting", is the Japanese tradition of going to visit scenic areas where leaves have turned red in the Autumn.}
