Morning Flight

I awoke at dawn this morning and saw two Great Blue Heron's in our yard by the creek.  Usually they are hanging out in the water, fishing, not in the trees.   By the time I got my telephoto lens on my camera (while trying not to wake the entire house) the heron's were just taking flight.....beautiful, graceful and serene.

Sometimes it's lovely to wake before the rest of the house while everything is so very still....... except Mother Nature.

“When despair for the world grows in me, and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be -- I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought or grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.” - Wendell Berry

My Symphony

As I consider how to go about making my life simpler, I came across this quote and I found it so relevant to my life right now......

"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury; and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable; and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasion, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony."  - William Henry Channing
